A modern field of vision on water culture study

Zhou Xiaohua

Water culture has been growing in step with human civilization. Comparing to the traditional advantage of water culture as mother culture, the influence of modern water culture study goes far behind. Therefore it is vital of searching a broad way of water culture research under the modern field of vision. Science and Technology for water modernization is the main body of water culture and water shortage becomes a challenge to modern water culture. The interaction between water and economy broaden the space of modern water culture. Water culture and humane quality are interrelated by the issue of rural drinking water safety. Water culture has been enriched by water infrastructures of reservoirs as well as establishment of harmonized society.

Current status and recommendations of promoting integrated development of water, wind, solar and storage energy under the “dual carbon” goal

Jiao Yong;

Promoting renewable energy development shall be the primary choice for China to achieve its carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals. Wind and solar power generation have obvious intermittency,volatility and randomness that may enhance the capability of grid regulation, which is a necessary condition for ensuring rapid growth of renewable energy. Hydropower has two features of adjusting peak of the grid and energy storage and should be boosted under the “dual carbon” goal. Based on basic concepts of integrated development of water, wind, solar and storage energy, best practices of the Qinghai Province which is located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River Basin are introduced. Potentiality and advantages of integrated energy development are explored. However, we are facing a number of challenges such as insufficient installed capacity of hydropower, lacking of integrated planning and coordination mechanism and institutional system. It is recommended to facilitate integrated energy development, by increasing intensity of hydropower development, optimizing the funtion of hydropower from electricity supply to capacity support, improving institutional mechanism for integrated energy development and scientific research and talent cultivation.

Studies on evaluation system of water ecological civilization

Wang Jianhua,Hu Peng

Interpretation of inherent of water ecological civilization is made on the basis of knowledge of current evaluation indexes and working experiences.A framework of evaluation indexes system is proposed relating to the systems of water ecology,water supply and utilization,water management and water culture.Selection of evaluation indexes is made to each system.Specific calculation method of each index is defined.A relatively perfect evaluation system has been formed by taking the basic condition and special indexes for the evaluation of water ecological civilization into full consideration.

Research progress on traditional agricultural water-adaptive landscapes in abroad

Yu Kongjian;Chen Yiyong;

Many ancient civilizations have developed advanced water technologies during thousands of years of trials and errors of living with water resources.Natural disasters,including floods,droughts,soil erosions,as well as the experiences of field making,food production,irrigation management,has taught the ancients to create and maintain agricultural adaptive landscapes.The composition and structure of agricultural water landscapes are strongly affected by climate,topography,precipitation,etc.Recently traditional water landscapes topics had transferred to integrative landscape studies,focusing on the compound structure and function of water adaptive landscapes.With the development of modern hydrological technology,the traditional water-adaptive landscapes are facing great risk,even those in the rural area.Confronting with the deteriorating water environment,how to learn from the traditional water landscapes to establish a more sustainable and adaptive landscape architecture,should be paid more attention to.Based on a framework of water-adaptive landscapes,widely discussing the composition,distribution,regional diversity and the affecting factors,are what the Chinese researchers should learn to carry out.

Future trend of Yellow River sediment changes

Wang Guangqian;Zhong Deyu;Wu Baosheng;

The change of water and sediment is remarkable in the Yellow River Basin, under the impact of human activities and climate change. Comparing the runoff and sediment in Tongguan Station before and after 1960, it is found that the flow reduces by 44% and sediment reduces by 85%. The changes of water and sand turns to be the key issue need to be solved in the Yellow River regulation. A simple analysis on the future tendency of water-sand changes in the Yellow River Basin is conducted, which shows a slow rise tendency in the next 50 year in the Tongguan Station, an annual runoff of 24.7 billion m3 and an annual sediment transportation of 0.3 billion ton.

Discussion on principles of river ecological restoration planning

Dong Zheren

The paper brings forward 5 principles of river ecological restoration planning based on discussing the objectives and targets of river ecological restoration: coordinated development between river ecological restoration and socio-economic development; taking river basin as the basic unit in planning; landscape pattern of more spatial heterogeneity; giving priority to ecological self-rehabilitation with supplementing appropriate human interventions; carrying through ecological restoration works in combination with the management of resources and environment.
